Daily Habits that are More Dangerous than Smoking

Everyone knows that smoking is a dangerous addiction that can cause destructive changes in the human body. However, there are no less bad habits, the negative impact of which we often underestimate.

1. Abuse of sweet carbonated beverages

Carbonated sweet drinks are very harmful to the body because they contain large amounts of fructose corn syrup.

This component of carbonated beverages is the main culprit of obesity, diabetes, heart disease, and other serious disorders.

Do carbonated drinks really cause such serious damage to health? Believe it or not, but drinking only one can of this drink a day, in one year you can weighting much as 7 pounds! In addition, even such a seemingly small dose of the drink increases the risk of developing diabetes by as much as 85%.

2. Insufficient or too much sleeping

Studies conducted at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (USA) have shown that less than 6 hours and more than 10 hours of sleep a day can lead to the development of the following serious diseases:

  • diseases of the cardiovascular system;
  • diabetes;
  • adiposity;
  • depression.

3. Sedentary lifestyle

If you are one of those people who, after eight hours in a sitting position in the office, come home and sit in front of the TV, it can be dangerous for your life!

According to a study published in the Archives of Internal Medicine, adults who spend more than 11 hours a day in a sitting position are 40% more likely to die 3 years earlier than those who sit no longer than 4 hours a day.

Prolonged stay in a sitting position increases the risk of developing the following diseases:

  • diabetes;
  • cancer;
  • disorders of the cardiovascular system.

Note that the risk of getting sick does not decrease even if you are active in sports, which is why we strongly recommend moving more and sitting less at the computer.

4. Crossing the legs in a sitting position

At first glance, this habit may seem completely innocent. But in fact, a regular crossing of the legs while sitting can lead to poor blood circulation and blood clots. As a result, the risk of developing the following diseases increases:

  • varicose veins;
  • high blood pressure;
  • thrombosis;
  • tension in the thighs;
  • posture problems.

5. Improper nutrition

A diet dominated by foods high in preservatives or fast food has no less detrimental effects on the human body than alcohol, tobacco, and drug addiction. This is evidenced by data from the Global Panel on Agriculture and Food Systems for Nutrition (GLOPAN).

Note that an unbalanced diet can lead to the following diseases:
